Course Outline

Nitrox (EANx) is any combination of nitrogen and oxygen gas in your cylinder. Since 1912, nitrox has been used extensively by commercial organizations and the military. It has also been used in the medical field as a therapy gas.

  • Divers most commonly use 32% or 34% oxygen (nitrox 32 or nitrox 34). The increased oxygen content will lower your nitrogen loading while diving.
  • Many divers mistakenly believe nitrox is used only on deep dives, when actually the ideal range for its use is between 12–40 meters/40–130 feet, the standard recreational depths.
